Hey there,
Lately, I’ve been pondering the balance between easy and hard things. This month has been a rollercoaster filled with ups and downs in my entrepreneurial journey:
- I had COVID (not fun!).
- I sprained my ankle (ouch!).
- I had to cancel a shoot because I was sick (so disappointing!).
But there were also incredible highlights:
- I spoke at a mastermind (what an honor!).
- I completed some big projects (woo-hoo!).
- My marriage feels like it’s never been better (so grateful!).
These experiences remind me that life is a mix of the positive and the negative. However, I’ve been grappling with the concept of “easy” lately.
You see, I thrive on hard work. I love a good workout and the satisfaction that comes from pushing through tough tasks. There’s something noble about overcoming challenges; it makes growth feel even more valuable. Hard work definitely has its place in our lives.
But what if easy isn’t such a bad thing? Recently, if someone suggested that “it could be easy,” I would have countered, “It can’t be worth it then.” Yet, what if it truly could be easy?
What if relationships could flow without endless struggle? Could earning money could be fun? Maybe creating content doesn’t have to feel like an uphill battle?
The more I ponder this, the more I realize how many things are already easy. I have a dishwasher that cleans my dishes, a washer and dryer that handle my laundry, and plumbing that brings water directly to five rooms in my house. I barely have to walk 25 feet for a drink! Plus, I can have food delivered and access a wealth of information at my fingertips in seconds.
So, why does my brain frame “easy” as a problem? It whispers, “You’ll get soft, lazy, or entitled.” But when I reflect on the ease in my life, it actually makes me feel less entitled. It reminds me of the sacrifices my ancestors made—traveling long distances for water or living without indoor plumbing. Life is easier for me, and maybe that’s the point.
What if the fact that things are getting easier is what makes life better? Sure, I can choose hard paths, and I do. But why not embrace the easy ones too?
